10 self-reflection questions to help you overcome self-doubt and boost self-confidence

1. What specific doubts about myself or a situation are coming up for me right now? Name them.

Write these doubts down. Seeing them on paper can make them seem more manageable and less intimidating. A simple yet powerful practice that I use by Byron Katie is a process of self-inquiry called ‘The Work’ involves asking four simple questions about each belief that causes us pain:

  • Is it true?

  • Can you absolutely know that it’s true?

  • How do you react when you believe that thought?

  • Who would you be without the thought?

2. How do I typically react to my mistakes and failures?

Practice reframing failures as learning experiences and pushing past your growth edges, not reflections of your self-worth. There is always a lesson in every experience we have – you have the power to choose whether it is a positive or negative one.

3. Which past achievements am I most proud of?

Create a visual reminder of these achievements (however big or small) to serve as a source of inspiration and motivation. Tap into that resourcefulness and power and remember that fearless girl or woman is still there inside of you!

4. What small, achievable goal can I set for myself today?

Break down your goals into small steps and celebrate each achievement to build momentum – just taking one small step today will move you closer to what you want. This prevents overwhelm and stops procrastination in its tracks.

5. In what ways have I grown from the challenges I’ve faced?

Keep a growth journal to document your learning journey and personal development. You will be amazed at some of the ways you may have changed your behaviours, thoughts, and actions and not realised the growth happening over time.

6. Which positive affirmations resonate most with me?

Find and choose affirmations that speak to your innermost dreams and desires and repeat them daily to instill confidence in yourself. One of the most recent affirmations I heard in a film really resonated with me and I use it - ‘’I will not give up on myself. I will not give up on my dreams. I will make my life count.’’

7. What negative influences should I consider limiting in my life?

Be mindful - identify and reduce exposure to negative people, situations, or media that feed self-doubt. Seek out positive, supportive environments that bring positive energy and encourage your growth journey. Who or what might be draining my energy?

8. Who in my life genuinely supports and uplifts me?

Think about the people who lift you up. Invest more time in those relationships, especially the ones that positively affirm and support the woman you are becoming. It’s not just surrounding yourself with people who only see the best in you and not your flaws – that’s not healthy. You want people around you who will encourage you and give honest feedback in a constructive way, that feels authentic.

9. How do I envision my life after achieving my key goals?

Use visualisation techniques to keep your goals vivid and inspiring in your mind – take 5 minutes today to use all your senses to visualise one of your key goals:

  • What is happening around you -is it daytime or in the evening?

  • What are you hearing and seeing?

  • What colours can you see in this vision?

  • What feelings are you experiencing, can you amplify them, so they fill your whole body?

Visualisation helps you ‘practice’ success. When you imagine every step of an event or activity

going well, you get your mind and body ready to take those steps in real life!

10. What self-care practice can I do today that would make me feel more balanced and centred?

Integrate self-care rituals into your daily routine for consistent mental and emotional well-being. Whether it's walking, exercise, meditation, or reading, find activities that relax and recharge you. Just taking 5 minutes to bring your attention back to your body and noticing your breathing, is an acknowledgment that you are present and alive in this moment.

Every step you take towards understanding why you do what you do, and how to change that inner programming if it's not working for you, is a step towards a more confident you. If you feel you could benefit from some guidance on this journey, I'm here to help. Book a FREE discovery call here
